Once the decay reaches the Pulp/Nerve, it travels down the nerve and infects the tissue and bone under that tooth, giving the classic gumboil(abscess) appearance. The only way to remove the infection is either by doing a Root Canal or Extracting the tooth in conjunction with a course of antibiotics
